That's what people said about Reagan. Nowadays the likes of Sam Donaldson and Dan Rather are acknowledging his part in winning the cold war and bringing about the end of the Soviet empire.

If Bush's policies in the ME are successful, and I will acknowledge there are no sure things in life, we may end up with a more peaceful ME with very different regimes a couple decades from now.

Transitions to relatively democratic govts have been made in Europe, much of the Soviet empire, the Far East outside of China/NK/VN, and even Latin America. The wars that characterized those areas for so long are largely ended.

I think we should all hope a similar transition can occur in the ME.
