Just like the DSM Memo. Even Clinton pretended that he never read about DSM although he said that Bush had planned to removed Saddam before taking office and that Cheney went to CIA HQ, definitely not for having a cup of coffee. And then he sidestepped the issue saying that Saddam is bad. The power of incumbency is enormous and the apathy of the nation and the fear of reprisals are the main factors why current efforts against the neocons will fail. Apathy: it is not happening in my back yard (NIMB), so I don't feel it. Let us see the post I made a few days ago:Message 21415708 That story caused outrage in the area where Cunningham represents. Several people wrote to the editors condemning that action. Look at the post. Is there any reply, any outrage from Sioux Nation? None. Why? Apathy! Why? NIMB! Most might not even know where Escondido is. It does not affect them. Enlarge the situation. How many Americans have directly experience having sons or daughters returning in aluminum boxes or have limbs missing? Since there is no draft, the percentage of people impacted is very small. It does not matter whether Mr. Conyers got 550,000 signatures or 5,000,000 signatures. That action will not be enough to move mountain. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Where does that take us in getting back the country from neocons? Of course get involved which is easier said than done because of NIMB. Some people suggest that the draft will awaken the nation. I support this idea. That is a painful way to solve the problem for those having draft age children - high school or college graduates. These people are our foundation for the future: bright young idealist group, a powerful group. If the draft is reinstated, they are the ones who will be in the military. The way to regain our country from the old guard is by having the new generation/students getting angry and take actions . Remember Vietnam in the 1960s: student power - hey hey LBJ, how many did you kill today? Indonesia: 1965 against Sukarno: student movements. Again in late 1990s against Suharto. South Korea: student powers. Iran: against the Shah - students Tien An Men Square : students Berlin Wall : common folks and students America has the best students in the world. Once they are subject to the draft and they see an illegal war, dimmed future and contributing to SS which is given the bleak picture by Bush, inflation, lack of funding for education, yet schools are built in Iraq who does not even pay US taxes, they will rise. They will unite against injustice. They will march. They will be on the street demanding change. They will demonstrate. And they will get support from the masses. And the cowardice media has no choice but placing them on the front page. And change will be happen. Conclusion: If you want to succeed, have Congressmen/women visit campuses, talk to students, forget party affiliation. Tell the truth what is happening. Maybe the draft will return soon, that is painful, but so is surgery. Good night.
