Effectively suspending habeas corpus. Say, are you (OF COUSE NOT!) aware that Lincoln suspended habeas corpus during the civil war? Not Congress, Lincoln. And not for a few people in Gitmo. For EVERYBODY. THe USSC ruled that his act was unconstitutional and only Congress had the power to suspend habeas corpus. Lincoln then seriously considered having the Chief Justice arrested. He also imprisoned many editors for printing material he didn't like. No charges. No trial. No jury. Just prison. So are you saying GWB is the equal of Lincoln?
