Ray, from what I understand, Shell is ditching NZ as a prospecting place due to poor risk reward balance. But there is plenty of production and some exploration still going on.

I'm with John Browne of BP who says oil is too expensive to buy [for BP] though perhaps there are low-priced deals here and there falling out of situations such as Yukos and Iraq which might attract them at some time.

I'll stick with investing in cyberspace and inventing the world's next currency. That's where the real action is. 19th century industrial revolution stuff like oil is not of much interest to me [though it served me well for a decade or so].
