Did he really think a prospective employer was going to ask for his GPA?

of course the kids put it on all their resumes. companies have cut offs for interviews and hiring. Anyone below x gpa doesn't even get an off campus interview. Where is this professor's head? You need to start at some point to screen out sometimes hundreds of applicants. gpa is one area, next may be contribution to college activities, followed by employment or charity work.

did the high achiever obtain these grades and also participate in various college exercises and did this person do summer jobs or other charity work to help pay for college. Combined they show how well rounded a person may be and still obtain decent grades. Based on the screening results you may get an off campus interview.
