Not a hypothetical, BTW. ABC News had a story last night about just such a case. Doctors are trying to keep a brain dead woman's body alive just long enough to give her fetus/baby time to develop to the point where it's chances of survival without ongoing medical problems are good. It would be interesting to hear the "a dead body is just meat" and "a fetus is an extension of the mother until the cord is cut" viewpoints on this case.

"is the baby a human being?"

That is one of greg or e's red herrings--although I suspect you did not intend it as such. The question is not how much human dna is involved or if the genes are whole, damaged, or missing, or how big the zygote or fetus is. The question is one of human rights which society grants when the fetus is born and becomes a LEGAL person. Rights suppose the capacity to pursue choices as to life, liberty, and happiness. Neither a brain dead person nor a fetus have the capacity to make such choices. They have no rights. Society may still (however) have an interest in how they are treated.
