Mike, Learning from the experiences of others is essential to adding to ones knowledge. Even if I disagree with some people, something can be learned if I listen. Each of us has had different experiences in life which forms our opinions.

Because of what my parents went trough, I have also never had any use for the stock market. I may earn less from CDs but they are a hell of a lot safer as far as the principle is concerned.

Being in the military can, and usually, changes a person's view point of life, and death. I have a special feeling of honor for those that participated in combat. My service fell between wars, and although I was extensively trained, I never got to use the training as it was intended. For awhile, I was bitter that I never got my war, but that is a stupid attitude. Getting shot at ain't no picnic.

I think the uncle west was correct about LBJ, and his decisions as to how to wage the war in Nam. He expected the Viet Namese to take a holiday during Tet, and that there would be no fighting. As a result of him, and other politicians, our troops were caught with their pants down, and far too many died because of Johnson's misunderstanding of the Oriental mind. The main reason for problems in Nam, was that the politicians ran the war, instead of the military officers, as it should be. Can you imagine an order from headquarters that you are not to fire a shot, unless shot at, and even then, before you fired back, you had to radio to headquarters for permission?? That's just insane.

If one reads "ALL" the books about that war, their minds would be boggled, and confusion would prevail. Everybody has an opinion about the war, but opinions are not factual.
