the real point is to PREVENT ALL children from being hungry and sick.....at least here at home first and foremost

No argument.

Unless we're going to argue about what hungry means. If a child goes hungry because they're offered a nutritious meal at school but rejects it and instead chooses to eat the empty calories bag of chips their parents sent from home, I don't consider that a government failure. If they're going hungry because the parents trade the food stamps intended to feed the children for money for alcohol and tobacco, I don't consider that a government failure.

I have personal knowledge of both these things happening more than rarely in our community. And much, much worse.

The programs, the resources are there. But there are some parents who have the ability and resources to feed their children but either don't have or don't exercise the knowledge and/or discipline to make sure that their children are fed properly.

Parental irresponsibility can void even the best intentions and most comprehensive government programs. Sad but true.

I believe that with the programs and resources already in place effectively every parent in this country who genuinely wants their children to be well fed and is willing to take advantage of all resources available to them, and who behaves responsibly in applying food dollars and food resources (food banks, school feeding programs, etc.) to feeding their children healthy and nutritious meals, can make sure that their children never have to go to bed hungry.
