We need the following things all at once: 1) strong, modern military with global mobility and capable of project power anywhere around the globe within 24-48 hours 2) a Manhattan Project energy policy to cut oil consumption by 50% within 15 years and for the U.S. to be a dominant alternative fuel user within 20; specifically targeted mandate to reduce oil purchases from the ME from 8 million bbd today to 0 within 10 years 3) irreversible balanced budget amendment; if we don't have the dollars from revenue, then we can't spend 4) re-instatement of a 50%+ tax on incomes above $500K, indexed to inflation; cancellation of the AMD, and overhaul the tax system to make it more simple 5) complete overhaul of social security for anyone under 30, so that they are switched over to a system of private accounts (no withrawals until retirement age, mandatory investments into lifecycle funds, tax deferred, mandatory purchase of annuity payable monthly upon retirement with no ability to withdraw above that amount, and principal balance upon death is inherited by heirs) 6) bill to provide universal healthcare managed by the gov't, but funded through taxes from citizens and corporations in equal amounts 7) formation of a new world governing body called the Unite Democratic Nations with a charter to include only Democratic nations and an accreditation process; all World Bank and WTO activities and funding will go through this org instead of the U.N.; all U.S. funding for the current U.N. will cease 8) all funding of Israel would cease immediately, until such a time as Israel has worked directly with the Palestinians to solve its own problems, at which point, we'll fund both according to their merit Now that would be a much better world.
