Mindmeld, If the U.S. doesn't need to buy more oil than we produce, then we control our own prices and we aren't dependent on countries who support terrorism. That's the bottom line.

That's true, but we already control our own prices to an extent. Notice how gas is much cheaper here than in most other countries? In my view, that's because they have to import a higher percentage of their oil than we do, often times 100%. Guess who's going to find their oil prices dropping once we stop importing Middle Eastern oil?

Not to say that we should consume even more Middle Eastern oil just to deny other nations theirs, which would be silly. But I'm just telling you what the market reality is.
