The world does need to be a more level playing field if we are to seriously attempt stopping global warming. People who become middle class and thus have a stake in their future and the education to consider environmentalism as a positive are much less likely to pollute and litter. People who are using the rain forest to start fires to do their cooking are not a plus when it comes to stopping global warming, either. There is absolutely no reason on earth that America should dominate economically or produce much more than its fair share of waste and pollution. It is much too powerful, actually.

I am fairly confident that if I could find Margot Wallstrom's full comments, she would be saying something along the lines of the above. The fact that only Robert Novak and some libertarian, anti-global warming sites are using her quote is suspicious to me.

Do you believe it is rational not to care about global warming because on Wallstrom's quote? Do you see how special interests like the carbon lobby profit from global warming?
