JDN, I have been cautioned against following up on this line of inquiry. By now you may have received such a warning yourself?

Out of deference to Lindy Bill's right to set the parameters of the topics that he wants discussed on this thread, my only response is that if you look to most historical assessments you'll discover that early on the US backtracked on agreements to hold national unification elections in Vietnam because the consensus was that the vote would have been for unification.

By the way, I thought it was a "fuzzy memory" but maybe it is a "foggy mind." g. Ed
