You are apparently a supporter of factory farming, and I am an opponent.

The problem with discussing factory farming is that there is no clearly logical reason for either position. Both positions depend on one's belief about man's relationship with animals, and that doesn't arise from logic but from belief.

I criticize because you state as fact that all factory farms are polluters, evil, etc. This is no more factual then me saying all Jews have big noses. And being around farming all of my life that is what I find offensive because you are wrong.

Lets look right up the road from my SIL at the Jensen farm. Milking 1500 head I'm sure that they qualify as an evil factory farm. One of the top producing herds in the state producing 25,980 lbs on average per cow. Their cull rate is below state average for farms of all size leaving them with an excess of bred heifers to sell every year. In other words their damn cows aren't tipping over and dying all over the place. They use NO antibiotics but rather use vitamins in mega doses to treat mastitis when they get a case. They are not unique in this approach by the way, I was doing the same thing 17 years ago when farming. All of their feed is grown by the them with the only additives that are purchased being minerals. And finally in a joint effort with the state they installed the 18th manure digesting plant used in the state. The methane is captured and used to produce enough electricity for their farm and 100 more homes besides. The liquid waste is treated just like the waste at your local sewage plant and then applied to the fields as basically water, and the solid digested product that is left is used as their organic fertilizer.

Evil bastards.
