I'm sure they will be very successful. I think the trades are a great option. I like to bring speakers in from the trades when I do the sophomore material on jobs and occupations (it's very vague language, so you can bring in any speakers you want to), and some of them are absolutely fantastic- one tile guy I had in to speak two years ago could have been a stand up comic.

Not that he's in the trades, but the fire captain for our town not only had a great project for the kids (where they wrote up an accident involving a milk tanker, complete with pictures of the accident), but he told them all about his life and how he got to his present position. It was fascinating.

We've had some flops as speakers too. Our mayor came in and managed to insult several kids in my class. I couldn't believe it. He thought he was joking- but asking the only black student in class if he is "from the hood" because he is wearing his sweatshirt hood up is not appropriate, imo. One of my seniors this year was from the sophomore class which had the mayor in to speak- and the first thing my student said was, "Remember when we had the mayor in to talk to us..."

On the other hand the next day we had a great discussion about speech, and how you keep from being offensive. So maybe it was a great teachable real life example. Sometimes the flops make for great teaching later.

Sorry, I got off on a tangent here...
