It took years, but we forced the government to end the Vietnam war. The world didn't end, as we were told it would. Americans stopped dying for nothing but the hubris of politicians. It may take years again, but we'll end this war too. The world won't end, Americans will stop dying and killing Iraqis, and the Iraqis can determine their own fate, as they should.
