So what do you think? Road warrior world? Could happen if we hit the wall fast enuf. Security is enuf of a concern that the biggest hippie-vegan peacenik on our steering committee was the first to bring up the need for some kind of local security force. Some see the threat more from our local low-lifers than the rats, err, lemmings, yeah, lemmings :>) leaving the City.
I'm hoping for a more orderly transition, which is already beginning in Europe and Japan. Maybe a series of recessions, slowing things down to give us more time. Henry's flu pandemic could do it, too, altho I remain skeptical about the prospects.
I get the feeling that we are really close to plateau; I'm not sure we can increase production by another 10%. Conservation and more efficient use will buy us some time, but overall world growth has got to slow down, and, at some point stabilize, until we can make energy cheap again; probably when everything has gone renewable. India is already on the cusp of an electrical crisis, and China is starting to feel it; the American Empire might end up surviving by attrition.
Other than that, I don't see how we are going to make it. California is working on another solar plan; Million solar houses. I haven't been following the details, but consider this. I'm gonna get a small system, 8 panels max, cuz I use very little juice. Figure double or triple that for the average homeowner who wants to break even; that's 16 mil panels, minimum. Where are they? There is a shortage right now. All the panels at my contractor's warehouse are already committed. If I'm lucky, mine are on a ship somewhere, but they were told they just had one month's shipment cancelled. Don't see how we are going to make it in time, without severe problems.
