You attributed the violence to religious fanaticism. Religion has little to do with it. It is more about ethnic rivalry and just plain old frustration and need for recognition.

The operative word was "fanaticism". Fanaticism equates to intolerance for differing interpretations.

Such intolerance often breeds violent behavior and militantcy.

And yes.. just as many crusaders "took up their cross", being led by individuals emboldened to use god as justification for increasing their personal power, we're seeing the same thing occur with Islamic fanatics, led by clerics who see millions of potential recruits to their cause with which to build their own personal politcal (and economic) power (or to preserve what they already have.

There are millions of young muslims being lied and manipulated by fanatical clerics willing to send them off to wage "jihad" in a foreign land.. But then they get here and find out this Jihad means killing fellow muslims, not just infidel crusaders hanging out behind Hesco barriers and concret walls in their encampments.

And many of them are finding themselves being used to wage local and regional battles against Iraqi tribes, killing all MAM (military age men) and boys, setting up their own Islamic courts and "Talibanizing" any area they can establish control over.

And indications are that even the Sunnis are getting sick of Zarqawi and his bunch..

Stay tuned..
