click "Open With"
click "Choose Program" if Acrobat isn't shown
select Acrobat

i suspect 3.0 is pretty ancient, and a lot of new pdf files wouldn't open with it, that's why it is defaulting to wordpad, which is a very simple program.
did this problem start recently?
what is your operating system?
what have you not upgraded to newer acrobat?
