Either he fathered those children while still "hoping for Terri's recovery," or he fathered those children after deciding that Terri should die, but before he resolved the legal fight.

He fathered those children well after the doctors had given up hope in 1994 that Terri Schiavo could recover. How could a rational man have hope when the MDs had signed off?
