JF Shepard, Is the Catholic Church a cult? It's my understanding that they believe salvation is earned through good works and a belief in Christ? I wouldn't classify the Catholic Church as a cult, since to me their good works is their way of demonstrating their faith. In other words, a new believer doesn't really have to try all that hard. I might be wrong on that, though. Lots of things about the Catholic Church that don't fit the theology I was taught under; however, most Catholics I know of don't exhibit the cult-like mentality.
