>>Rape in China: A 3-Month-Long Nightmare for 26 Schoolgirls
By JIM YARDLEY

There are a lot of things wrong with Chinese Society. There are a lot of things wrong with how their leadership get their mandate to rule. The rape of school girls is not, however, one of the things you can blame on their leadership. I don't think they will have any more tolerance for that kind of stuff than you do.

Just as we can change our leadership, through elections, our basic values come from our Judeo-Christian heritage and not necessarily from our leadership. Our leadership can come from the Republicans, Democrats, Liberals, Conservatives, Whigs, what have you but our basic values are not going to change that much.

Similarly with China. Governments can come and go. They can be Mongols, Han, Kuo Ming Tang (sp?), Communist, whatever - but their basic values are Confucian (?).

IMO opinion Judeo Christianity is more modern and has evolved over time more successfully than Confucianism . But don't underestimate Confucianism. It is a very competitive philosophy. People with a Confusian background seem to thrive in almost any kind of modern society.

Perhaps your father can attest to that<GGGG>.
