Chaining prisoners into a fetal position, and leaving them in the dark for a day or two while they urinate and defecate on themselves, indeed, something that I cannot imagine US personnel engaged in.

Yes, the distraction is very effective.

Personally, I do not think that humiliation and temporary physical discomfort are necessarily inhumane treatment for a prisoner of war who has useful information. I do not know if such treatment is productive or not. If it isn't productive, then we must disallow it. If it is productive and we want to use it, then we must make a case for it.

It's really dumb to be wasting time over the conflating of what Durbin said and what some people inferred that he said when we could be dealing with what is or isn't appropriate treatment of prisoners.

As I said in my previous post. If "ANY" prison system in the world were held under a similar microscope, they would come out wanting far worse.

Have you ever seen a French prison? A Turkish prison? A Belgium prison? A U.K. prison? A Greek prison, or an Italian prison? Heck! most of the "hospitals" I've seen in Italy have worse things happen, not too mention the prison system. Did you know that in Italy the word of a policemen is tantamount to a "fact" in court?

Isolated incidents of neglect and abuse happen everywhere. We can mitigate them, but that's about it.
