I went to an energy meeting last night in Willits. The speaker was from the Northern California Power Authority, a pubic entity comprised of a number of cities who are their own power companies; Palo Alto, Alameda, Ukiah, etc.
I left early, during a rehash of the power crisis, since lt didn't seem applicable for us. It might work for Willits, but we are unincorporated, so there are a lot of big hurdles to clear.
Anyway, the most interesting facts I picked up were:
During the 00-01 power crisis, the cost to California's economy (5-6 in the world) 70 billion dollars; enuf to rebuild the entire energy infrastructure in the state.
PGE charges were fixed at 10+ cents/ kwh;' however they were paying as much as 31 cents, and losing 1 million bucks/ hr.
Energy costs,in constant dollars, had been declining during a 100 year period of regulation. Been increasing ever since dereg; coincidence?
