The ideology left them and they didn't even know it. It also left most of them poor and a meager pension. He was lucky and married a very inventive entrepreneur, a true capitalist, a woman way ahead of her time. One that made a successful business for herself and her family.

He was a printer then a machinist (along with other things as a jack of all trades)..........I still have the leather handled oak chest......filled with all of the precision tools and slide rules and dozens of items from the 30s and 40s, including an old pack of camel cigarettes, that he dragged from job to job. It is very heavy and I can't imagine that in today's world it would ever be considered a portable item. But back then it was, so he took it with him where ever he was told to go.

I vaguely remember hearing the stories of his times down near the docks "fighting for the working man" and for "worker's rights."

I'm sure all of those old guys are gone........and he died when I was 8, and everyone else that knew him in my family is dead too............so I'll never get to hear first hand accounts. But I've got the Internet, and that's where I'll start.
