The feds also goosed the housing market through Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, etc. Federal subsidies helped build the transcontinental railroads, provide rural mail delivery for Sears & Roebuck, and invent the Internet. We're used to this sort of thing.

Problem I have with the the current proposed energy bill is that there is still too much emphasis on corn-based ethanol. I'd rather see more emphasis on bio-fuel processes that require fewer fossil fuel inputs.
