if you approach God in the name of Jesus with a broken and contrite heart he will reveal himself to you. if you pray to him in an arrogant or haughty manner--i won't presume to think that i can determine his every response--but most likely he will not hearken to your prayer.

in other words if you approach God with scorn and doubt and do the exercise just so you can say i tried and he didn't answer, God most likely will not hearken to you.

if you are totally genuine in your search for God, and truly desire to know, and you approach him in a humble manner, he will not refuse you or turn away from you.

most people are scared to even try this prayer, because in the back of their mind they know what the result will be and what they will have to face.

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise. --Psalms 51:17
