Bull, M'q But then again... Anyhow. Having one alternative is no alternative. But then again... Maurice - What is this, the Akira Kurosowa "Seven Samurai" verison of geopolitics ? So the farmers (New Zealand, etc.) hire Samuari (US) to fight the bandits (Stalin, Kim Jong Ill, SLORC, etc.) ? This analogy breaks down long before I get to thinking of GW Bush as the Toshiro Mifune character....

DJ, I need my CDMA realm protected. Ghandi advocated peace for all men right? When they come to your realm, lay down in peaceful resistance - don't join in thier violence. I don't want China taking over Taiwan by bulk murder, or the "Pearl of the Pacific" aka New Zealand either. Well I am calling my friends in washington that you have found the answer, peaceful resistance, no US or UN or any other military to come and fight it out with the thugs, that just keeps the violence going. If they want to kill you, lay down your life - they will see the futility of thier violence while they swim in your blood. I quite like my traditional Kiwi freedoms. China is a repressive realm. Imagine having Yiwu the Mad and Bubba the Bigot as China's Viceroy to NZ. Scary. I'll take the USA or even France! Heck, even Japan might be better [modern Japan, not the pre-WWII version]. Oh no MQUIRCE - you would take the USA and all those violent gun toting fear mongers - for shame - I guess when you are down in the foxhole you are not so ready for peaceful resistance eh? You make no sense to me, first you say violence and guns and slapping and spitting and disciplining are BAD, then you say you like a USA that is infused with much of this. Make up your mind already. They positively revel in it. Look at the posts here - "How to teach good manners = threaten to shoot them in the face in a duel, or at least slap them, or spit at them". When dealing with megalomaniacs like Hu Jintao, Adolf, Mao, Stalin, Pol Pot, Saddam, and on and on they go, the only answer is defeat of them. No I have convinced the heads of the military your way is right, you dont stop yiwu the mad with more violence, you turn the other cheek, lay down your m16 and call Bubba 3 way on your CDMA phone and sing we are the world. That takes military horsepower. Otherwise, you have Genghis Khan riding into town demanding tribute, the girls and hacking a few heads until he gets bored. But that is better no? Why meet violence with violence, lay down your life and when they get bored of power and blood letting the violence will stop no? When all that tribe in NZ had been killed - there were no more to kill and the violence ended no? Dont JOIN in the violence, then what makes you better than genghis? Rome should have opened her doors to the invading mongrels and got them fat and happy on gladiator games and fine italian wine - so silly to fight them in battle. What was it nietzche said, you become the monster you battle? Best to die a good person than turn into the brute that lusts for violence. Let bubba and yiwu duke it out and kill each other in hatred and violence, lay down your life in peaceful resistance and show them the better way.
