The one who testified didn't actually say GW reported. He said he saw him in uniform in Alabama, nothing detailed just general statement. Outside the base strutting around or something. But the old guy sounded like he was making it up.
You could hear it in his voice. He got really nervous, as if he was scared to be lying and cut off the questioning. We never heard from him again. And he never tried to claim the big reward.

You can't call that a reliable witness. He was never even scrutinized before he disappeared.

Of hundreds of Alabama Guardsmen there at the time, not a single one remembers ever seeing GW. One of the guys even did an ad against Bush on that, saying he was there the whole time and would have remembered seeing Bush. Remember too, Bush lied in his autobiography about this. Then the cocaine arrest story. Which would explain a lot.
