You're not living here... there are PLENTY of people who believe in extracting information "by any means necessary," including people on these boards.

Hasn't Alan Dershowitz even written papers supporting the use of torture on terrorists?

Where the hell have you been? Torture goes on in American police stations more than we like to admit. Was it four years ago, the NYPD was taken to court after they sodomized an innocent man with a baton? The LAPD was accused of tortue on a number of times when I lived there. Rodney King was not the exemption the LAPD would like us to believe. In fact, on one occasion, I watched as the LAPD beat up an illegal. When I tried to intervene, they threatened me with reprisal.
