The President's leadership or failure to lead does have a very significant effect on the economy. Example: The 1993 tax increase which passed without a single Republican vote in the Senate was a major factor, along with spending cuts, in producing a balanced budget in the late 90s. The Bush tax cuts in 2001 are a major factor in causing the huge budget deficits of the past 5 years. The redistribution of income the past 5 years which has caused a huge gap between low income and income people has been caused, in large part, by the Bush fiscal policies.
