If the position is, as I think it is, that they will be held so long as the WOT is ongoing, then what is unclear about that? ...I can see how you find this problematical.

We are not communicating.

I am perfectly clear about that. And I do not find it problematic. Can we move on from there?

Where we disagree is that everyone else is clear about that. I'd be amazed if five percent of this country was clear about that. Likewise more than a few thousand people outside this country. People who haven't been immersed in this as we have are either thinking criminal justice paradigm, that the war will be over soon and they can be repatriated, or they just haven't thought about it at all and would be befuddled by the question.

What I have been posting about is my concern that by dragging out their rude awakening we are causing bigger problems for ourselves.

really have no problem with imprisoning the combatants for life so long as there is a reasonably good chance that releasing them can harm us. Perhaps they can be released once they reach a certain age or somehow convince us that they are no longer a danger

nor do i...

the last thing i would want to see is terrorists using our judicial system to their advantage

i personally like the idea that they can be held indefinitely

a defacto life sentence

hopefully a bit of a deterrent, but even if not, it keeps them off the streets
