Read the article you posted with care. It illustrates that Brazil takes from all, including the poor to benefit the large farmer. A farm of 30,000 hectares is about 70,000 acres.

Market forces do not drive ethanol production in Brazil but rather the rich and powerful have found a way to get more money from the government.

BTW my deceased father-in-law owned 30,000 hectares in the Sertao. The land was used for raising cattle and being very dry supported only a few head of cattle per hectares. But 30,000 ha. of crop land in Mato Grosso represents real wealth and power.
