BMW had to put lots of money into the new Mini-Cooper design and development. It will have to keep selling well for a few more years to generate a good return on that investment.

GM bought Saab - and that's a mess. Saab design has been really odd for a long time.

Renault with Nissan - huge efforts but it turned around.

Ford with Mazda - maybe okay.

Ford buying Jaguar - I expect an all-in accounting would show ROIs in the single digits.

Ford with Volvo - looks good so far, but Ford may have paid to much. I bet they would like ot have 8 Billion instead right now.

Daimler buying Chrysler - still to be determined. Might turn out as good a Nissan. At least some good, interesting cars are the result.
