Why did the guy who retyped them destroy the originals to protect someone's identity? Why aren't the original minutes part of the public record?

Dang! You still haven't read them. Had you read them you would have seen they are labeled 'highly classified'. That's are why they are not a matter of "public record".

And let me remind you that not one public official in the UK has questioned or denied their authenticity.
