Last time I checked my history book, the Korean War was an United Nations action, fought under the flag (like it or not) of the United Nations.

I don't see Kofi Annan sitting at that negotiating table.. In fact, I don't think we've EVER head anything from him about getting the UN involved.

I'm telling you that bilateral talks between Washington and Pyongyang will not work. We'll simply step into Kim Jong Il's trap and find ourselves being "blackmailed" by his international tantrums and threats.

The only way to deal with it is to place China in the position of having to take measures to ensure that their little insubordinate step-child doesn't launch a nuclear arms race in the Pacific region...

The last thing China wants is a nuclear armed Japan, Taiwan, or South Korea all locked in their own version of Mutually Assured Destruction.. It would effectively nullify Bejing's plans to dominate the region.

There are no major strategic interests at stake to the United States, except the S. Korean economy. And it's doubtful that N. Korea could/would deliver on any threat to attack the South knowing that there is nothing to be gained but the destruction of Kim Jong Il's "heaven on earth"..
