Nadine, I agree that the quartet might be toothless, but I do fear that the US may make sacrifices that are paid for by jewish blood, as has been the case many more times than I would care to recall. It could be said that the US has a great interest in co-opting the Saudi's and the Egyptians, but similar to deals with Arafat, whose bosses were surely egyptian, saudi, soviet, etc., any deal is a bad deal, when it comes to appeasement. Just think of the size of the global consumer markets, if these arab countries came into not just the 21st century, but just for starters, joining the 20th?
