I think we are about at the plateau. Don't know how long we can keep up this level of pumping. I'm just hoping we can keep this level up for a few more years. One little story about Hubbert; in '71, the industry was laughing at him. "We have never pumped more oil than we are now". '71 was the peak for the US. One other hint of immediacy...One guy in the "End of Suburbia" said he knew we peaked when the Texas RR Commission took all limits off the producers. About 2 months ago, OPEC said the same thing. I suppose we'll know in a year if '05 is the peak or not. Sell 'em all, they're all worthless. See "60 Minutes" on Wednesday? We've been going after the wrong enemy. The danger always comes from where you're not looking, doedn't it? The Chinese Navy currently has 72 sumarines and building at about 10% a year; the US has 74, a large cut from previous numbers and falling. THe saving grace is that (so far) the Chinese subs are relatively primitive compared to ours. Who wants to bet that will remian the same? Their surface forces are currently no match, but they have plans to change that. Currently they have no aircraft carriers. Wanna bet that won't change? They'll build it with our money too. Anybody see the day when they take Taiwan and are in a position to blackmail the Japanese and Phillipines? Just to get some oil on the subject, CNOC wants to buy Unocal.
