We know that Gatti can take a punch. And we know that Mayweather's hands are prone to injury.

All true. But Gatti also has trouble with his hands. Gatti has also been knocked down and almost out numerous times and been stopped by De la Hoya while I don't think Mayweather has ever been knocked down.

Hey guys,

If there is a point to be made in Gatti's favor - and you nailed it, BenWobbles - it is Mayweather's propensity to hurt his hands when the other guy takes it to him. If Gatti jumps on Mayweather at the open, and Pretty Boy Floyd has to sting him to keep him at bay, he may indeed damage his hand(s). If that happens - and I'm sure that Buddy McGirt has given Gatti all the telltale signs to look for in Floyd's punching habits - it may very well be Gatti's fight. Corrales never got close enough to Mayweather to decisively test his chin, so without his hands and taking into account Gatti's tenacity, that could be one of those intangibles that make for amazing nights in this wonderful sport. Great point.

But...

...if you want my prediction - and even if you don't :-) I'll have to go with Mayweather, late. I suspect that he'll be wily enough to avoid any pressure from Gatti early, flurrying to win rounds and will do enough to blunt the tough-but-oh-so-easily-damaged 'Thunder' Gatti by cuts or ballooning eyes in the early or middle rounds. And, that with growing confidence on the part of Floyd, Gatti's face will progressively get worse until the ringside doctor calls it off.

Mayweather by stoppage in the 9th.
