To: ~digs who wrote (1131 ) 6/26/2005 8:40:29 AM From: ~digs Respond to of 7944 a word about my future... as i told one of the readers here in a PM, i am going to disappear from SI in the not too distant future i don't know exactly when, but the point is.. i'm leaving for good .. and will be instead devoting my time to a weblog there are a number of reasons for this: -the whole bulletin board style of posting is antiquated .. and that's putting it mildly -for whatever reason, i have never been able to garner much interaction here on SI. there's maybe a half dozen people here that i've exchanged posts w/ consistently over the years. it's not enough, and my weblog is going to change that. -a lot of times i don't get a response from the SI servers. maybe the problem is on my end.. but why does it only happen with SI? i'm pressing 'submit' for a post and often that means it's time to twiddle my thumbs.. no server response.. better go read elsewhere and try again in a few minutes.. ugh -i am not at all happy about the decrease in our ability to search thread archives. when i signed up for LIFE i was told we'd have access to all the features of the site PERMANENTLY. at present, if you want to be a hardcore searcher, they want more money. boo! i would have liked to have referenced that post re Newspaper Companies up-a-creek-w/-no paddle, but frankly i'm sick of sifting thru the archives to look for something when in the past, a keyword search would have been sufficient. sure, the upgrade is not a lot of money.. but based solely on principle i refuse to pay it. i feel as tho i was deceived seven years ago. i apologize to my friends here, but before you ask: i will not be sharing the location of my blog w/ anyone on SI or IRC. the plan is to let it come on to the scene quietly, and let the readership grow on its own merit. this enables me to establish an entirely new internet identity, which i think is a good thing. my tone will change slightly, i'll definitely be discussing some more personal issues and opinions. yes, a good portion of it will concern stocks, but i'll also be talking about philosophy, music, women, and just about anything else that I find interesting. each post will be tagged w/ a subscript so that it can be categorized. that way the people who don't care about stocks and options can skip that content. others won't give a rip about my pontifications and may perhaps just get an RSS feed w/ scan results anyway, i've been studying weblogs for about three years now. it's just about time to take the plunge by trying to become the author/broadcaster/film-maker that i think i can be. best regards to all
