I'm always impressed by the fervor with which Texans protect liberty. They should be proud, and one wonders if that sense of vigilance has anything to do with their being the only U.S. state that was once a sovereign nation.

There's an initiative here in New York being put forth which would require, at the expense of the proprietor, that male and female restroom facilities be made equal: five urinals in the men's room must, on or before a certain date and under penalty of fines, be accompanied by no less than the same number of toilets in the ladies' room. It applies to restaurants, theatres, bars, small offices, and other private establishments.

Need I reveal the manner in which many of Gotham's small business owners will likely address this new regulation? If I know them...and I think I do...most will simply take a sledgehammer to the 'extra' urinals in the men's room rather than go through the inconvenience, plumbing expense, and spatial logistics required to install more toilets in their ladies' rooms.

And thus, we have higher costs for those business owners who endeavor to conform to the new regulation accompanied by higher discomfort for the patrons of those who choose to equalize their facilities in the manner described above; in the latter case, the probable creation of two bathroom lines where previously there was but one.

And, last but certainly not least, another area in which constitutionally-guaranteed private property rights are made to yield to the encroaching claws of our very own duly-elected statists.
