Can you imagine anyone giving "the Checkers speech" today? What a hoot! I'll never forget Checkers, or Pat's cloth coat.

In it he refers to his political adversaries as "enemies."

As soon as I saw that line I'd shut the book and curse the sob. I think it was a huge mistake for Ford to give Nixon a pardon when he did. Pardons should be given after a conviction, not before the public fully understands what the sob did.
