"The cost of rent is the true cost of living because renting is always a viable option and owning a house is not a birthright."

Rent IS a birthright? You can always sleep in the parks or the doorways downtown. That's the birthright.

The cost of rent is the true cost of living because renting is always a viable option and owning a house is not a birthright.

This is absurd.
If so, then why is the government using the price of cars to calculate inflation instead of what it costs to rent them.

Using the same logic, you could say that the cost of renting is the true cost of using the car since owning a car is not a birthright.
