As supply grows tighter (to you and me that means "as the supply situation worsens") oil in-ground becomes more valuable.

Acknowledging peak oil would serve to greater spur development of alternatives which would infringe on market share and probably negatively impact future dollar value of in-ground oil.

Denying peak oil serves to allow the supply situation to worsen.

imo.
