Once a tradeline is opened, the "damage" is essentially done. If the Unocal & Nordstrom - type accounts don't sport any annual fees, leave them open unless specifically asked to close them for a mortgage application, etc. (If these accounts are among the oldest on your credit report, closing them could lower the average age of your accounts, and thus result in a lower credit score. Conventional wisdom is once again incorrect.)
