OER is not by any means perfect and I do not doubt Darfott's claim that it understates inflation. My point is that it is not anywhere as close to an understement of inflation as raw housing prices would be a gross overstatement.

That said, I understand his sentiment and fully predict that if Housing prices take a prolonged and serious fall, the govt will switch over to using actual home prices in the CPI.
