Re: Based on what, wishful thinking?

Keith, in terms of performance and performance per watt, AMD is shipping much better product than Intel is.

There is speculation that Intel will have a new process next year that will let it catch up to what AMD is shipping now, maybe even surpass what AMD is shipping now.

I'd throw that "Based on what, wishful thinking?" comment back in your face and suggest that we're starting off with a rather big stretch that Intel will actually ship anything like what Intel's "wishful thinking" is calling for, at this point.

We're supposed to see 10GHZ P4's next year according to Intel's previous "roadmaps." At least, the few remaining systems that aren't running IA64 instead of the rapidly-fading-into-obscurity X86.

We'll see if there is a real world 25watt Yonah, much less a 64-bit Merom, any time soon.

Meanwhile, you could probably find a few X2's now that would run undervolted at 35 watts and as AMD tweaks its process (they have close to a year) and moves to 65nm (which I agree will not be seen on shelves in Q1 of next year) 25watt dual core parts from AMD are just not that big a stretch.
