Yes, and it does so very well.

Rudolph Diesel's first engine ran on peanut oil.

Theres a couple of ways to do it..

1.Transesterification of the vegetable oil to separate out the glycerin, using methanol and sodium hydroxide (creates biodiesel)...costs about $1.00 a gallon to produce.

2.Fabricate a heated fuel system and run on straight unmodified vegetable oil...one time investment of about $2000 to do it right, fuel is free from restaurants.

I do both..start up on biodiesel, let vegetable oil heat up via a coolant heat exchanger and switch over to veggy fuel, then just before shutdown switch back to biodiesel to make for easier cold starting for the next trip.

Next week I take off for an 1800+ mile trip to Canada with 186 gallons of onboard fuel, more than enough to make the trip without a fuel stop, and I'll collect vegetable oil once up there for the return trip..

I should add that regular diesel can be blended at any ratio with vegetable oil so if a fuel stop was needed it wouldn't be a problem.

but I won't so I'll just honk and wave as I pass ya'll at the fuel stations while ya'll are gunning each other down fighting for the last drops of dino oil -g-
