That is what a conventional world power believes. Should we accept being a regional power with other conuntires or unions taking their proper place?

That is what a conventional regional power believes. With its own nuclear weapons, why should it ever seek more?

In short, we only may be able to afford being a regional power. However, this would be a bitter pill for us to swallow. Eventually, we will do it. Its a matter of how we realize it.
