I think this law suit is way over due, but there are risks:

Many of the oppressed are waiting on hold right now to Otellini's office to express their undying love for Intel, and claiming, "I didn't snitch!" We can expect a statement from Michael Dell stating that they were never coerced by Intel.

The market may take this as an act of desperation by AMD.

The market may wonder about the timing wrt the quarter.

And, I think the elephant standing in the room that no one is talking about is, what are the consequences if AMD loses the suit?

Anyone know when a dollar value would be put on proposed damages? I've been thinking that $10 Billion should do.

I think you all are missing the point here..."who cares if AMD wins this law suit; if AMD can show time after time that Intel has engaged in this behavior public opinion will sway to AMD's favor in a big way especially if this is dragged into the public arena for a couple of years through the courts...

Ru1, Re: However queasy anyone may have felt about Intel's practices, they went along with them for money.>

Well, Yeah. Sleazy but leagal to take the money. Offering in may be a whole different thing.

Re: <Therefore AMD profits will continue to be capped until such time as Intel stops its practices. >

In the JFTC Intel agreed to cut that stuff out.

However, Intel also said "the changes outlined in the agency's proposed cease-and-desist order would not affect its ability to compete in the Japanese marketplace."

Which,in Intel Speak is "You Ain't Seen Nuttin Yet".

Re: I think part of the American and certainly Wall Street mentality is "might is right" or "greed is good".>

Toss in a "Fair is Fair" and a couple of "Mom and Apple Pies" while you're at it.

rupert,

However queasy anyone may have felt about Intel's practices, they went along with them for money.

Yeah, but they are being bribed with their own money.
