So, the answer to "the chicken or the egg?" is evolution? I think that's evading the question, don't you? Solon indicated a fully functioning nervous system might do it for him. That would exclude anyone deemed a "witless half-wit", correct? BTW, is that one-half of zero or negative one-half wits?

Pretty good post, Turnip. You put forth some critical questions. I probably will not have my home computer back for perhaps a week or two. I would like to discuss issues of mind, however. I discussed some with Neocon. We differed--but I truly respected his longing for truth. You and I have differed as well. I decided (as did you) to go with my opinions. But I respect your willingness to discuss--even when it rubs raw on both of us ( and I naturally understand--perhaps even feel--how your "faith" creates a chasm between a STRICTLY rational discussion between us). Surely...there are thousands of faiths which contradict and oppose. "Solon indicated a fully functioning nervous system might do it for him" I see all creatures as part of a continuum. Try to forget being human and just recognize you are alive. Many creatures live longer than you. Many creatures live very short lives. All of that is, os course, relative. The only LIFE you have is when you are aware and conscious. If you have ever been under the knife you will comprehend this. For 4 1/2 billion years you did not exist. Don't even ask about you before that! Your particular and peculiar dna and existence happened like a rain drop falls upon a rabbit pellet. Perhaps there is something behind it. Although I am hard pressed to conceive why you should be more important than a piece of lettuce, a pine nut--or a timber wolf? I don't want to be misunderstood. Still...as I said...you talk well. And I truly appreciate your input. It is honest to a higher degree than most...
